I don’t understand how the environment of two houses, only three blocks from each other in the same neighborhood can be so different.
Some car just pulled up into the driveway and this dude walked up and started yelling at the driver to get out of his car. Then they drove off together.
a homeless gentleman has been talking to himself outside my window while drinking a tallboy for the better part of a half hour.
I just got an e-mail invitation for “A Night of Men’s Comedy” to benefit the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing.
HERE IS MY (andy) EMAIL TO THEM:
I am emailing to question why you are having a men in comedy night when there are quite a few hilarious women in the area that would love a chance to perform or hold a women in comedy night if you bothered to look. I thought your place was about empowering local women? There are already two venues (Connxtions and Mac’s Bar) that are very male dominated and not a very safe place for women comics. It just seems to me like you blew a very good opportunity at giving some local women a chance to get their name out there a little more. It is disappointing considering your organization’s mission statement.
I am not very eloquent and am you know, male, but I suggest everyone email them at womenscentergl@yahoo.com

i need to do homework.
need to do research.
need to oppose idiots.
apparently someone is going around my neighborhood hanging signs that read “no ho zone”, “welcome to lansing’s red light district”, etc. so i am going to go around hanging counter signs for the protection of sex workers and arguments for the legalization of prostitution.
if you can come up with a witty saying let me know.

The Claudettes, all chopped up into little pieces

I was around the northwest side last night and I walked around what used to be the Michigan Female College and later Michigan School for the Blind.
Whenever I get money I want to help reopen it as a haven house and tutoring/mentoring center for Lansing women of all varieties (age, trans, poc).
There are a bunch of other abandoned buildings in the area of another school complex too so future expansion is another goal. (women-led business/incubators).
Fullerenes - micky(’s got a hold on me)
A song for those who love a good old 40oz of Micky’s. Which is my official drink.
Lansing needs to chill the fuck out. Three shooting deaths in the last week. :(
“Lansing police have waived the ordinance against camping in the parks for the group.”
“The city of Lansing has provided portable toilets and garbage cans for the group.
Okay so I don’t know why they are doing this this early because the event doesn’t actually start until Saturday the 15th, BUT I love Lansing a little more now because of the police response. Not to mention the mayor is totally on board.
Knapp’s, Lansing, Michigan
from Roadside ArchitectureAnother photo of the Knapp building. Again, anyone have an update? Still abandoned? Demolished?
From Roadside:
The streamline moderne Knapp Building was built in 1937 as the J.W. Knapp Department Store (Lansing’s largest). The store closed in the 1970s. At some point, it became Knapp’s Office Centre. However, since around 2002, the building has been vacant and the City continues debating what to do with it. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. the plagues - i’ve been through it before
One medical marijuana shop in Lansing is using that incentive to entice its clients. The clinic claims it’s just doing its civic duty, but is it going too far?
“It wasn’t ever to lure patients or try to buy their votes — no, not at all,” said Shekina Pena, the owner of “Your Healthy Choice Clinic” on Michigan Avenue in Lansing. For the past month and a half she and other dispensaries in the area have been running a voter registration campaign. She says she’s been educating patients and caregivers on the medical marijuana ordinance and who on city council supports it.
On the Site, the clinic offers half a gram or a free medible, which is one of their food products, as a thank you for registering. Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope says the clinic is treading on a very fine line because the giveaway seems to be too closely tied to which candidates the clinic supports.
